# How to create a voice from your own writing

Updated October 6, 2026

HidenGPT builds a voice from 2-5 pieces of your own writing (at least 300 characters) and follows its tone, sentence length and word choice in every draft that uses it. Pro saves up to 5 voices and Pro Max up to 20.

## Steps

- 01 Open “Voices” in the studio sidebar and click “New voice”.
- 02 Type a “Name”, such as “Essays”. Left empty, it's saved as “My voice”.
- 03 Under “Your writing”, paste 2-5 things you wrote yourself, separated by a blank line. The counter turns green at 300 characters; the box holds 20,000.
- 04 Click “Learn this voice”. When it has read your writing, the voice appears as a card.
- 05 In the composer, open “Voice” and pick it. Your default voice is preselected, and “No voice” writes without one.

## What to paste

Paste writing that sounds the way you want drafts to sound: past essays, a personal statement, long emails. Full paragraphs tell it more than short lines. Use only your own writing or writing you have permission to use; the Acceptable Use Policy rules out imitating another author.

## What the profile records

Style, not topics. You get a short summary, up to 5 tone words, sentence length and rhythm, word choice, formatting habits, up to 6 signature phrases from your samples and up to 6 things you never do, plus up to 3 short excerpts. On the card these show as “Tone”, “Sentences”, “Words”, “Signature phrases” and “Never does”.

Drafts and the red pen pass both follow it. Where it clashes with a format's rules, the rules win: an X post still stops at 280 characters.

## Default voice and plan limits

Your first voice becomes the default; “Use by default” on another card moves it. Pro saves 5 voices and Pro Max 20. Building a voice is a model call, so it needs a plan and uses credits.

## Privacy

Your account keeps the profile and its excerpts, not everything you pasted. Samples go to the AI model provider through OpenRouter only to build the profile, and they aren't used to train models. “Delete” on a card removes a voice.

## What it doesn't do

- It copies how you write, not what you know: opinions, memories and facts must come from your brief or “Notes”.
- A voice can't be edited; create a new one from other samples instead.
- Text only, up to 20,000 characters. Trial drafts can't use a voice.

## Questions

### How much writing do I need?

At least 300 characters, and more is better. Two to five pieces of a few paragraphs each work well.

### Is my writing used to train AI models?

No. Samples are used only to build your profile, which stays in your account until you delete it.
