# About Us Page Examples for a Small Business, in Your Own Voice

> Write an About Us page for a small business that sounds like the people who run it: what visitors look for, two example pages and the samples to use.

# I run a small business and our About Us page sounds like everyone else's. I want it to sound like us.

Bring how the business started, who runs it, what you sell and to whom, two facts a customer could check, and a few things you or your team already wrote. HidenGPT's Anything format drafts a page of about 300 words, and a voice built from those samples keeps it sounding like you. You cut anything that isn't true.

## How to do it in HidenGPT

- 01 Write down the facts first: who started it, when and why, where you are, what you sell, who buys it and one or two things you do differently that a customer could see for themselves.
- 02 Collect two to five things you wrote in your own words, such as customer emails, Instagram captions or a newsletter, and save them as a voice under Voices.
- 03 In the main box, paste the facts, say who the page speaks as (“we” or “I”) and add “use only these facts”, then pick your voice in the composer.
- 04 Read the draft out loud as if a customer were standing at your counter, and delete every sentence you would never say to them.
- 05 Add a photo of the real people and one clear next step, such as the opening hours, a booking link or the shop address.

## Two example About pages

Example 1, a bakery (the facts from the request above), 203 words:

“We're Mei and Lin, two sisters who started baking bread for the Saturday farmers market in 2018 with one oven in Lin's garage. By the second summer we were selling out before 10 a.m., and in 2021 we opened the shop on Wayne Avenue.

How we bake

Every sourdough loaf starts with the starter our grandmother began in the 1990s. We've kept it alive through two moves and one very close call involving a power cut. The ovens go on at 3 a.m., and most loaves are gone by 1 p.m., so if you want a specific one, come early or order ahead.

Who's here

There are 11 of us now. If you've bought a cinnamon knot on a Tuesday, you've met Andre, who shapes them. Lin still runs the morning bake; Mei handles the shop, the orders and the wholesale cafés.

Come by

We're at 418 Wayne Avenue, Wednesday to Sunday from 7 a.m. You can also order for pickup on this site until 8 p.m. the night before.”

Example 2, a two-person bookkeeping firm, 92 words:

“Ledger & Lane is two people: Carla Ruiz, a CPA who spent nine years at a regional accounting firm, and Owen Lane, who ran the books for his family's restaurant before joining her in 2020.

We keep the books for about 60 small businesses in and around Tucson, mostly restaurants, salons and trades. You get one of us by name, not a ticket number, and we answer email within one working day.

If your books are a shoebox of receipts, that's fine. Book a 20-minute call and we'll tell you honestly whether we're a fit.”

Neither page says “passionate”, “quality” or “customer-focused”. Each claim is something you could test by walking in or sending an email.

## What people look for when they open your About page

Most visitors land on an About page to answer one question: are these real people I can trust with my money or my afternoon? Answer it in roughly this order:

1. Who you are, by name, with a photo if you can.
2. How long you've been doing this and where.
3. What you make or do, and who it's for.
4. One or two specifics that set you apart, stated as facts, not adjectives.
5. What to do next: visit, call, book, order.

For most small businesses, 200 to 400 words is enough, as a rule of thumb. A short story of how it began is welcome if it's true and takes a paragraph, not a page.

Before: “We are passionate about delivering high-quality, customer-focused solutions that exceed expectations.”

After: “We answer email within one working day, and you get one of us by name, not a ticket number.”

The first sentence would fit any company on earth. The second one can only be yours, and a customer can check it within a day.

## Getting your own voice into it

Generic About pages happen when the writer, human or AI, has nothing of yours to go on. A voice profile fixes that. In HidenGPT you paste at least 300 characters of your own writing, ideally 2 to 5 pieces, and the profile records your tone, sentence length and the words you use and avoid. Choose it in the composer and the draft follows it.

The samples that work best are ones you wrote quickly to real people:

- Replies to customer emails or messages.
- Instagram captions or Facebook posts you wrote yourself.
- A newsletter or a note you put up in the shop.
- A transcript of a voice memo where you explain the business to a friend. People talk more like themselves than they write.

The samples that work worst are polished marketing copy someone else wrote for you, because the profile would copy that writer instead.

If two owners have very different styles, make two voices and decide whose name the page speaks in. Pro saves up to 5 voices and Pro Max up to 20.

## Why the page opens Anything at 300 words

About pages have no format of their own in HidenGPT, so this page opens Anything with a word count of 300 and Tone on Friendly; switch Tone to Professional for a law office, a clinic or a firm that sells to other businesses. Anything works out the kind of text from your request, so say in it that it's an About Us page, who it speaks as and whether you want small headings.

Anything has no built-in rule against filling gaps, so write “use only these facts” into the request, and check every date, number and name. A founding year or a staff count that's slightly wrong is the kind of thing a long-time customer notices. A light red pen pass cuts stock phrases such as “we pride ourselves on” and shows a naturalness score before and after; the score helps you edit and is not an AI detector.

## Not the right tool if

- Inventing a founding story, an award or years of experience you don't have. It reads well until a customer who knows you reads it.
- Legal pages such as terms, a privacy policy or a company imprint. Those need the actual legal wording for your country.
- A team page with long individual bios. For one person's bio, the professional bio page fits better.

## Other ways to do it

Interviewing yourself on your phone

Record five minutes answering “why did you start this?” and transcribe it. The best lines for the page are often already in there.

Your website builder's About page template

Good for layout and photos. The placeholder text in it is what makes so many About pages sound the same, so replace all of it.

A local copywriter

Worth it when you also need a homepage and product pages in a consistent voice, and can spend an hour being interviewed.

ChatGPT or another chatbot

Gets the structure quickly, but without your samples it reaches for “passionate” and “quality”, so give it your own writing or edit hard.

## Questions

### What should I put on my About Us page?

Who runs the business, how long and where, what you sell and to whom, one or two specifics a customer could check, and what to do next. Add a photo of the real people if you can.

### How long should an About Us page be for a small business?

About 200 to 400 words, as a rule of thumb. That leaves room for a short origin story and the facts without turning it into a history lesson.

### Should an About page be written in first or third person?

First person (“we” or “I”) for most small businesses, because it reads like the owner talking. Third person suits a firm with many partners, or a page that mostly lists bios.

### How do I make the page sound like us and not like a template?

Write from things you'd actually say, and replace adjectives with facts. In HidenGPT, a voice built from 2 to 5 pieces of your own writing, such as customer emails or captions, steers the draft toward your rhythm and words.

### Should I tell the story of how the business started?

Yes, if it's true and short. One paragraph about how it began gives people a reason to remember you; a page-long saga pushes the practical details too far down.

### Is it fine to have AI write our About page?

Yes, if every fact on it is yours and you edit it until it sounds like you. HidenGPT drafts from the facts and samples you give it; you correct anything that isn't true and publish it as your own page.

### Can I try it before paying?

Yes. Visitors get 2 drafts a day on the homepage without an account, though saved voices need a plan. Pro is $3 for the first month and keeps up to 5 voices.
