# I'm listing a product on Amazon and need a title, bullet points and a description that follow the rules.

Amazon's US title limit is now 75 characters including spaces, with 125 more for item highlights. Give HidenGPT's Product description format, set to Amazon, your specs and who buys the product; it drafts the title, feature bullets, a description, specs and search terms from those facts. Then trim the title to 75 and count it yourself.

## How to do it in HidenGPT

- 01 Collect the facts from the product and its packaging: brand, product type, material, size or pack count, color, who it's for, care and country of origin.
- 02 Pick Product description under “Use it for” (in More), set Platform to Amazon, paste the facts and add one line at the end: “Title: 75 characters or fewer.”
- 03 Put the words shoppers type under Keywords and the buyer under Customer, choose a Tone, and change the bullet count under More details if 5 doesn't suit your category.
- 04 Count the title, take the end punctuation off each bullet, move care and origin into their own Amazon fields and turn the keywords into one lowercase line with no commas.
- 05 Paste each part into its Seller Central field, write the item highlights from the details that didn't fit the title, and check every claim against the packaging.

## Amazon's title rules, as Seller Central states them

Amazon's Product title requirements page for US sellers says a title must not exceed 75 characters, including spaces. The rule covers every product type except media, in every Amazon store except Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates. Amazon's seller news set the change for 27 July 2026, and its help page warns that a listed title that breaks the rules may be corrected automatically or drop out of search results.

The other rules on that page: no promotional phrases such as “free shipping”; none of the banned characters, which include the exclamation mark, $,?, _, { }, ^, ¬ and ¦; no word more than twice, brand names included (articles, prepositions and conjunctions don't count); numerals instead of spelled-out numbers; a capital at the start of each word except short prepositions, conjunctions and articles; no all caps and no subjective tags such as “Hot Item” or “Best seller”. The suggested order is brand, flavor or style, product type, key attribute, color, size or pack count, model number. Size and color go in the child listing's title, not the parent's.

Before (143 characters): “Trailbound Heavy Duty Dog Leash 6 FT Reflective Nylon Leash with Padded Handle Traffic Handle Locking Carabiner for Large Medium Dogs Best Gift”
After (71 characters): “Trailbound 6 ft Reflective Nylon Dog Leash, Padded Handle, Forest Green”

The before title runs almost twice the limit, shouts “FT”, ends on a subjective “Best Gift” and crams in details that belong in item highlights.

## Item highlights: the 125 characters under the title

Once a title is within 75 characters, Amazon lets you add item highlights: up to 125 more characters for details such as materials or recommended uses, written as comma-separated phrases rather than sentences. They show below the title in search results and on the product page. Amazon's advice is to keep the most important variation details in the title and move the rest here.

The Product description format has no item highlights field, so build them from your bullets. Pick the three or four details a shopper compares that didn't fit in the title, and write them as short phrases:

“Traffic handle, screw-lock carabiner, 1 in wide, dogs 30 to 120 lb” (66 characters)

That leaves room for one more phrase if your category needs it, such as a length option. Count before you paste; a highlight over 125 characters won't fit.

## Bullet points: Amazon's shape and what it removes

Amazon's bullet point requirements for US listings ask for at least three bullets and say character limits vary by product type. Each bullet starts with a capital letter, reads as a sentence fragment with no end punctuation, and works best as a short header, a colon, then the detail. Write the numbers one to nine as words, except in names, model numbers and measurements, and put a space between a number and its unit, as in 60 ml.

Amazon may remove or edit bullets that contain symbols such as ™ or ®, emojis, guarantee wording such as “full refund”, links or contact details, comparisons with competitor brands, claims such as “eco-friendly” or “anti-bacterial”, the same fact repeated across bullets, all caps, or details that have their own fields: fabric content, care instructions and country of origin.

Before: “PREMIUM QUALITY: Our leash is the best leash for big dogs, machine washable and made in Vietnam.”
After: “Traffic handle: Second grip 18 inches above the clip keeps a big dog close at crossings”

The format writes each bullet as a feature followed by what it does for the buyer, which already fits the header-and-colon shape. What you fix by hand is the end punctuation and anything that belongs in a dedicated field.

## Search terms, the description and what to cut

Amazon's search optimization page limits the generic keyword field, where search terms go, to less than 250 bytes; plain English letters and spaces count one byte each. It asks for lowercase words separated by spaces with no punctuation, synonyms and spelling variants, either the singular or the plural, no brand names or ASINs, none of “best”, “cheapest”, “new” or “on sale now”, and no short words like “a”, “the” or “with”. The format returns its keywords separated by commas, so join them with spaces and delete any word already in your title.

The help pages on titles, bullets and search don't give one description limit for every category, and Amazon says it may not use every word of the description and bullets for search. Write the description for a shopper choosing between two similar products: how it feels in use, sizing advice, what's included.

Cut before you publish: subjective words such as premium, best or top quality; any claim that isn't on the packaging, like “vet recommended”; care, fabric and origin details inside bullets; the same keyword repeated across title, bullets and search terms. The format won't add certifications, warranties or competitor names you didn't give it, and it warns when sale or shipping wording lands in the title.

## Not the right tool if

- Getting a claim past Amazon's rules or review. The draft follows your facts and Amazon's title conventions; it can't make a restricted claim acceptable.
- Books, music, video and other media, which sit outside Amazon's 75-character title rule and follow their own listing conventions.
- A listing for a brand you don't own or an item you don't have in hand. Write from your own product and its packaging.

## Other ways to do it

Amazon's suggested titles in Seller Central

Amazon told sellers its tools suggest titles and item highlights that meet the new limits, under View enhancements in Manage All Inventory. Quick for titles; the bullets and description are still yours.

Your category's style guide

Amazon links category style guides from its title help page. They cover rules for your product type, such as whether a model number belongs in the title.

A listing agency or freelancer

Useful when you launch many products at once. Ask whether they already write to the 75-character rule.

ChatGPT or another chatbot

Fine for a rough pass, but it tends to write long titles and words like “premium”, so count and cut.

## Questions

### What is the character limit for an Amazon product title?

75 characters including spaces for US listings, according to Amazon's Product title requirements page as of October 2026. It applies to all product types except media, and item highlights give you 125 more characters below the title.

### How many bullet points can an Amazon listing have?

Amazon's US bullet point help asks for at least three and says the character limit depends on the product type; that page sets no single maximum. The format writes 5 by default, or anywhere from 3 to 10 if you change it under More details.

### Is there a character limit for the Amazon product description?

Amazon's help pages on titles, bullets and search don't set one description limit for all categories. Check the listing form or your category's style guide, and spend the space on facts a shopper weighs.

### What are Amazon search terms, and how long can they be?

They're hidden keywords in the generic keyword field that help your product match what shoppers type, and Amazon keeps the field under 250 bytes. Use lowercase synonyms separated by spaces, with no brand names and no repeated words.

### Can I put “free shipping” or “best seller” in an Amazon title?

No. Amazon's title rules ban promotional phrases such as “free shipping” and subjective ones such as “Best seller”. The format also warns you when sale or shipping wording turns up in a title.

### Does the format know about the 75-character Amazon title limit?

Yes. The Amazon setting writes titles of 75 characters or fewer, the limit Amazon set for most stores on 27 July 2026 (it was 200). Count the title once more before you paste it, because Seller Central's rules for your store and category decide.

### Can I try it before I pay?

Yes, there are 2 drafts a day on the homepage with no account needed. A plan keeps your drafts and saved voices; Pro is $3 for the first month.
