Which AI humanizer is best for making a draft read naturally?
Updated · 8 min read · by the HidenGPT team
No AI humanizer suits everyone, and none can do the part that makes a draft yours: your facts, your examples and your last read-through. Choose by how you like to edit. Grammarly and QuillBot rewrite a whole passage at once, Wordtune and Hemingway Editor work sentence by sentence, and HidenGPT, which we make, rewrites a draft against a list of stock phrases and shows a score before and after.
No humanizer can promise what an AI detector will say. Grammarly and QuillBot both say their humanizers are not built for that, and Turnitin says its English detector also looks for text reworded by humanizers.
Disclosure: we make HidenGPT, one of the tools below. The facts for every tool come from its own website, read on October 10, 2026, with links; we didn't blind-test them. If something has changed, tell us through the contact page.
The tools, side by side
01Grammarly AI Humanizer
A humanizer inside Grammarly that rewrites AI-assisted text to read more naturally while keeping what you meant.
- Good for
- Reworking a full passage in one go. With a free account, the Humanizer agent adds four preset voices, a custom voice built from a writing sample you paste, and six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian. Grammarly Authorship can show which text came from AI, from sources or from you.
- Limits
- The tool on the page does basic humanizing; Grammarly says Pro unlocks the full Humanizer but doesn't spell out the difference there. Its FAQ says the humanizer is not intended to get text past AI detectors. Separately, Grammarly's AI prompts are capped at 100 a month on Free and 2,000 on Pro.
- Price
- Humanizer page and free account: $0. Pro: $30/month billed monthly, $60 a quarter or $144 a year.

02QuillBot AI Humanizer
QuillBot's humanizer for AI-assisted drafts, sold alongside its paraphraser, grammar checker and AI detector.
- Good for
- Short emails, posts and reports. It smooths stiff phrasing, repetitive rhythm and awkward transitions, and you can adjust the result with synonym swaps or an advanced mode. It works in English (US, UK, Australian and Canadian), Spanish, German, French and Portuguese; Premium adds humanizing inside ChatGPT and Gemini.
- Limits
- Free humanizes up to 100 words with limited use; Premium has no word or usage limit. QuillBot says its humanizer “isn't a tool for evading AI detection” and calls its Human score a signal, not a verdict.
- Price
- Free: $0. Premium: set by your region and billing period (monthly, quarterly or annual); see their pricing page.

03Wordtune
An AI rewriting assistant from AI21 Labs that offers several rewrites of a sentence or paragraph and lets you pick one.
- Good for
- Keeping control line by line. You choose the suggestion that sounds most like you, switch between casual and formal, and shorten or expand a sentence.
- Limits
- It writes only in English and translates other languages into English. Basic allows 10 rewrites and AI suggestions a day, Advanced 30. Its humanizer page says nothing about AI detectors.
- Price
- Basic: $0. Advanced: $13.99/month, or $6.99/month billed annually. Unlimited: $19.99/month, or $9.99/month billed annually.

04Hemingway Editor
A readability editor that highlights hard-to-read sentences, with an AI rewriting layer called Editor Plus.
- Good for
- Seeing what to fix before anything gets rewritten. The free version scores readability and marks wordy sentences, passive voice and words with simpler alternatives. Editor Plus rewrites sentences, applies one of eight styles and says it matches your tone and word choice.
- Limits
- AI rewrites are counted per sentence: 5,000 a month on the 5K plan, 10,000 on the 10K plan, and 200 during the 14-day trial. The pages we read don't mention AI detectors.
- Price
- Free version: $0. Editor Plus 5K: $25/month or $100/year. Editor Plus 10K: $30/month or $150/year.

05HidenGPTours
An AI ghostwriter whose Rewrite tool edits a draft you already have; Humanize is one of its seven actions.
- Good for
- Drafts heavy with stock phrases and a flat rhythm. Humanize runs the red pen's strong pass, which rewrites the flagged sentences instead of only deleting words, keeps your facts, names and numbers, and shows what it crossed out with a 0-100 naturalness score before and after. The text stays in the language you pasted.
- Limits
- No free plan, just 2 trial drafts a day on the homepage without an account. Up to 20,000 characters per rewrite. The stock-phrase list covers English and Turkish only. The score is an editing score, not an AI detector, and HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector. No plagiarism checker.
- Price
- Pro: $19/month ($3 the first month). Pro Max: $29/month ($9 the first month). Yearly: $68.40 (Pro) or $104.40 (Pro Max).

What a humanizer can fix, and what it can't
A humanizer works on surface patterns: stock phrases, sentences that all run to the same length, a transition at the start of every paragraph. It can't add what the draft is missing.
Take a sentence of the kind these tools are built for:
“In today's competitive job market, it is crucial to highlight your unique skills, as this plays a vital role in standing out to potential employers.”
Strip the stock phrases and you get something like “Show employers the skills that set you apart.” Shorter and cleaner, but still general. The version that sounds like a person comes from the writer: “I rebuilt our stock spreadsheet so the café ordered 30% less milk, and I'd do the same for your store.” No tool knows the café, the spreadsheet or the 30%.
So let a humanizer handle rhythm and phrasing, then put your own details back in by hand.
Try the no-cost way first: a 15-minute edit pass
Before you paste anything into a tool, give the draft one pass yourself. For a 600-word piece it takes about 15 minutes; that is a rule of thumb, not a measurement.
1. Read it aloud (4 minutes). Mark every sentence you would never say to a person.
2. Cut the filler (3 minutes). Delete openers like “It is worth noting that” and closing lines that only repeat the paragraph.
3. Swap one general claim per paragraph for a specific one (5 minutes): a number, a name, a place, something that happened.
4. Break the rhythm (2 minutes). After two long sentences, write a short one.
5. Check the facts (1 minute). Humanizers keep or reword claims; they don't verify them.
If the draft still reads stiff after that, a humanizer has less to change and less room to drift from what you meant.
Why some humanizers aren't on this list
Search for an AI humanizer and many results sell one thing: a lower score on AI detectors. We left those out. Their main promise is about a detector, and no tool can keep it: detectors change, disagree with each other, flag human writing and miss AI text. Turnitin also says its English detector looks for text that has gone through AI paraphrasers and humanizers.
The tools above describe themselves as editors. Grammarly and QuillBot say plainly that their humanizers aren't meant for detectors, and both ask you to follow your school's or employer's rules on disclosing AI use. Where a class bans AI, a reworded AI draft is still AI work, whatever a score says.
How to choose
Match the tool to the way you edit.
You want one pass over a whole passage: Grammarly or QuillBot. A free Grammarly account adds custom voices and six languages; QuillBot's free tier stops at 100 words.
You want to approve every change: Wordtune, which offers several rewrites per sentence, or Hemingway Editor, which highlights problems before it rewrites anything.
You want to see what was cut and why: HidenGPT's Rewrite crosses out the stock phrases it removed and scores the draft before and after.
You write in another language: Grammarly covers six languages and QuillBot five, English included. Wordtune writes only in English.
You don't want to pay: edit by hand first, then use a $0 tier. Every tool here except HidenGPT has one.
How we built this list
Every fact about a tool comes from its own humanizer, pricing and help pages, read on 10 October 2026 and linked under each entry. We did not run a blind test of output quality, and the order is not a ranking.
Prices are in US dollars. QuillBot sets its price by region, and Grammarly offers regional pricing in some currencies. Where a page didn't say something, we tell you. We make HidenGPT; its facts come from our own Rewrite, pricing and FAQ pages. If something here has changed, tell us through the contact page.
Common mistakes
- Pasting a whole essay into a humanizer at once: work one section at a time and compare each with your original.
- Accepting every change: reject any rewrite that alters a claim, a number or what you meant.
- Expecting a humanizer to add specifics: put in your own examples and details before or after the pass.
- Chasing a detector score: no humanizer can promise one, and Turnitin says it looks for humanized text.
- Skipping disclosure: if your class or employer asks you to say when you used AI, say so, and include the humanizer.
Questions
What is the best free AI humanizer?
It depends on length. Grammarly's humanizer page costs nothing to use and a free account adds custom voices and six languages; QuillBot's free tier covers up to 100 words with limited use; Wordtune's Basic plan allows 10 rewrites a day. HidenGPT has no free plan.
Can an AI humanizer stop Turnitin from flagging my text?
No tool can promise that. Turnitin says its English detector also looks for AI text that has been reworded by paraphrasers and humanizers, and Grammarly and QuillBot both say their humanizers aren't meant for getting text past detectors.
Is using an AI humanizer cheating?
It depends on the rules you write under. Polishing your own or AI-assisted work is normal in many jobs, but where a class restricts AI, Grammarly itself says using a humanizer to disguise AI use may count as cheating. Check the syllabus and disclose when you're asked to.
What's the difference between a humanizer and a paraphraser?
A paraphraser rewords text to say the same thing differently; a humanizer targets the patterns that make text read as machine-written, such as stiff phrasing, repetitive rhythm and stock transitions. The tools overlap, and both can shift your meaning, so compare the result with your original.
Can a humanizer make my writing sound like me?
Only if you give it your writing. Grammarly's Humanizer agent builds a custom voice from a sample you paste, Hemingway Editor Plus says it matches your tone and word choice, and HidenGPT builds a voice from at least 300 characters of your writing on a plan. Your own last read still decides.
Does a humanizer change the meaning of my text?
It can. Grammarly, QuillBot and HidenGPT all say they keep your meaning, but any rewrite can soften a claim, drop a qualifier or swap a technical term. Read the result next to your original, sentence by sentence.
Which AI humanizer works in other languages?
Grammarly humanizes in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian, and QuillBot in English, Spanish, German, French and Portuguese. HidenGPT's Rewrite keeps the language you paste in, though its stock-phrase list covers only English and Turkish. Wordtune writes only in English.
