How do I write an essay that doesn't sound like AI?
Start with your own thesis, examples you actually know and a sample of your writing. HidenGPT plans the essay, builds each paragraph on your points at your level, then a red pen cuts stock phrases and flat rhythm. You get a draft to rework in your own words, and no invented sources: it cites only what you give it.

How to do it in HidenGPT
- 01
Paste the brief, then write your thesis and the examples you want to use, even as rough notes in your own words.
- 02
Pick Essay, choose the assignment type and your level, and set the word count.
- 03
If you're on a plan, choose a voice built from essays you wrote yourself so the draft follows how you write.
- 04
For essays of 600 words or more, read the outline first and fix the argument there; it's quicker than fixing paragraphs.
- 05
Check the red pen notes and the naturalness score, then rewrite every part that doesn't sound like you.
Essay & Assignment: A clear thesis, well-built paragraphs and citations only from sources you give.
What makes an essay sound like AI
Teachers who read a lot of essays notice patterns more than single words. The common ones: openings that start from the beginning of time or “in today's world”. A thesis that sits on the fence. Paragraphs that open with “Furthermore”, “Moreover” and “Additionally” in turn. Every paragraph the same length and shape: claim, vague example, “This shows that”. Examples like “many experts agree” or “studies show” with nothing specific behind them. Words such as “crucial”, “pivotal” and “multifaceted” in every other sentence. A conclusion that repeats each paragraph in order.
Another tell is a sudden change in level. If your last three essays were plain and direct, a polished one full of words you never use stands out more than any phrase.
How to make an essay sound like you
Decide your position before you draft. A clear thesis reads more like a person than a balanced one, because people have opinions.
Use examples only you would pick: a scene from the novel you discussed in class, a figure from your lecture notes, something from your own life when the essay allows it. Specific beats general every time.
Vary the rhythm. Follow a long sentence with a short one. Start sentences in different ways. Say a point the way you'd explain it to a classmate, then tidy the grammar.
End on what follows from your argument instead of summarizing it. Then read the whole essay aloud and change anything you wouldn't say.
Where HidenGPT fits
The Essay format plans the essay to your brief, level and word count (an outline comes first from 600 words) and builds each body paragraph around a topic sentence, evidence and analysis tied to the thesis, with stock openers ruled out. The red pen then runs on Light, cutting clichés while keeping your citations and register.
Two settings move the draft closer to you. A voice, built from at least 300 characters of your own writing, carries your tone, sentence length and word choice. The Tone setting in More details is By level by default (Plain & clear for middle and high school, Academic for university) and can be set to Academic, Plain & clear or Personal; Personal tone and reflective essays allow first person.
The draft is a starting point. The examples and opinions you add, and the sentences you rewrite, are what make it yours.
Not the right tool if
- Getting past an AI detector. HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector, and detectors misread human writing too.
- Essays built on research you haven't done. It cites only sources you give it and leaves [source] placeholders elsewhere.
Other ways to do it
- Your school's writing center
- Free feedback from a person on your own draft, and the safe choice when AI isn't allowed.
- ChatGPT or another chatbot
- Quick drafts, but expect generic examples and phrasing you'll need to rewrite to sound like you.
- Grammarly or a spell checker
- Grammar and clarity fixes on an essay you wrote yourself.
Questions
How do I make my essay not sound like AI?
Use your own examples and vary your sentences. Specific details from your class, readings or life, a clear position and a mix of short and long sentences do more than swapping words; cut stock phrases and any conclusion that repeats every paragraph.
What words make an essay sound like AI?
Stock phrases more than single words: “delve into”, “in today's world”, “plays a crucial role”, “a testament to” and paragraphs that open with “Furthermore”. One of them proves nothing; a cluster of them plus same-length sentences is what readers notice.
Can AI detectors tell if I used HidenGPT?
HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector, either way. Detectors are unreliable in both directions: they miss AI text and flag human writing. The red pen exists to make writing read better, not to get around checks.
Can I use AI to write my essay for school?
Only as far as your class allows. Many classes ban AI or ask you to disclose it; where it's banned, use HidenGPT for outlines, feedback on your own draft or studying, not for the text you hand in.
Will the essay sound like me or like a generic essay?
Closer to you if you give it a voice and your own points. A voice is built from at least 300 characters of your writing; without one, the Plain & clear or Personal tone in More details reads less stiff than Academic.
How long should I spend editing an AI draft?
Longer than a skim. For an 800-word essay, 30-60 minutes of reading aloud, swapping in your own examples and checking claims against your notes is a reasonable start.
