My draft reads like ChatGPT wrote it. How do I make it sound like a person?

Put your own opinion and one real example into the draft, then paste it into HidenGPT's Rewrite on Humanize. It cuts stock phrases, varies flat rhythm and keeps your facts, names and numbers. You see a naturalness score before and after; it's an editing score, not an AI detector, so it promises nothing about detectors.

How to do it in HidenGPT

  1. 01

Before you paste, add your own material to the draft: your opinion in a sentence, one real example and any detail you'd mention when telling a friend.

  2. 02

Paste the draft into Rewrite and choose Humanize.

  3. 03

Humanize always runs the red pen's strong pass, so paste only the parts you want reworked.

  4. 04

Compare the before and after scores and read what the red pen crossed out.

  5. 05

Read the result aloud and fix anything you wouldn't say.

Rewrite & Edit: Humanize, shorten, simplify or proofread your own draft.

What gives a draft away

Most generated drafts share a handful of habits. Stock phrases: “delve”, “in today's fast-paced world”, “it's important to note”, “plays a crucial role”. A flat rhythm, where every sentence is 15-25 words long and built the same way. Em dashes in every paragraph. Sentences that keep opening with “This”, “Additionally” or the same subject. Balanced hedging (“both positive and negative effects”), lists of exactly three, vague nouns like “impact”, “aspects” and “various factors”. And a last paragraph that repeats the draft.

Underneath all of that is a lack of specifics. A generated draft doesn't know your example, your opinion or the detail you'd mention first, so it fills the space with safe, general sentences.

How to fix it by hand

Cut every phrase that says nothing. If a sentence still works without “it's important to note that”, delete the phrase.

Replace general claims with specifics. “Social media affects sleep” becomes “I check my phone until 1 a.m. and sleep through first period.” Which app, how many hours, what happened.

Take a side. A draft that weighs both sides equally sounds like nobody in particular.

Vary the rhythm. Put a short sentence after a long one. Start sentences in different ways, and break up runs of the same structure.

Drop the recap. If the last paragraph only repeats, end on the strongest point or on what follows from it.

Read it aloud. Anything you wouldn't say to a person, rewrite in the words you would use.

What Rewrite and the red pen do, and what they don't

Rewrite's Humanize mode runs the red pen's strong pass over your draft: instead of only deleting flagged words, it rewrites the sentences that read as generated, in your voice. It keeps your meaning, facts, names and numbers, adds nothing new and keeps the original language. You see what it crossed out and a naturalness score before and after: 85 or higher shows as “Sounds human”, 65-84 as “Mostly natural”.

Two limits matter. It can't add your opinion or your examples, because it doesn't invent content; that part is yours. And the score is an editing score, not an AI detector. HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector, and detectors are unreliable both ways, flagging human writing as well as missing AI text.

Not the right tool if

  • Passing off AI text as your own where a class or employer bans it. Follow your school's or employer's rules on AI and disclose it where they ask.
  • Getting past a specific AI detector. HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector.
  • Adding facts or examples. Rewrite keeps your content and adds nothing new, so the specifics have to come from you.

Other ways to do it

Editing by hand with the steps above
Free and the surest way to make it yours. Slower on long drafts.
A friend reading it aloud to you
Free, and you'll hear the sentences that sound like nobody talking.
ChatGPT or another chatbot, asked to “make it sound more human”
Quick, but check the result line by line; a second pass can swap one set of stock phrases for another.

Questions

How do I make AI writing sound more human?

Add specifics only you know and break the rhythm. Cut stock phrases, vary sentence length, take a clear side, swap general claims for real examples and drop a conclusion that only repeats the draft.

How do I make an AI-written essay sound like me?

Put your own points and examples in, then edit toward how you talk. A voice built from your own writing helps a draft start closer to you, but the last pass, reading it aloud and changing what you'd never say, is yours.

What does humanize mean in HidenGPT?

Editing out what readers notice in machine-written text: stock phrases, flat rhythm, piles of em dashes and repeated sentence openers. In Rewrite, Humanize runs a strong pass that rewrites those sentences rather than only deleting the flagged words.

Will humanizing get my text past AI detectors?

HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector. Detectors are unreliable both ways, missing AI text and flagging human writing, so the useful goal is writing that reads well to a person.

Does Rewrite change my facts?

It's built not to. Meaning, facts, names and numbers stay, nothing new is added and paragraphs and lists keep their shape; compare the result with your original anyway.

Is there a free way to check my draft?

Yes. The free AI cliché checker shows the phrases and rhythm problems the red pen would flag, plus the naturalness score, and it runs in your browser without sending your text anywhere.

How long can the draft be?

Up to 20,000 characters per rewrite, roughly 3,000 words of English. Split longer pieces into sections.
