What's a good alternative to Grammarly's AI humanizer?

Updated · 8 min read · by the HidenGPT team

The right alternative depends on what you want that Grammarly's humanizer doesn't give you. For a lower yearly price and reports on your own draft, look at ProWritingAid. For a cheaper plan and checks in more than 30 languages, LanguageTool. To set every editing rule yourself at no cost, ChatGPT or Claude with samples of your own writing. To see which stock phrases were cut, with a score before and after, HidenGPT, which we make.

None of them, Grammarly included, can promise how an AI detector will score the result.

Disclosure: we make HidenGPT, one of the tools below. The facts for every tool come from its own website, read on October 10, 2026, with links; we didn't blind-test them. If something has changed, tell us through the contact page.

  1. 01ProWritingAid

A grammar checker and style editor aimed at long-form and fiction writers, with a sentence rewriter called Rephrase.

    Good for
Reports on a draft you wrote rather than a one-click rewrite. Premium has 25+ writing analysis reports, a custom style guide and unlimited Rephrase, which can make a sentence formal or informal, longer or shorter, or more fluent.
    Limits
Free allows 10 Rephrases a day and two runs of each line editing report a day. Much of the plan is built for fiction: story critiques, manuscript analysis, comparison with published authors. The pages we read don't mention a humanizer or AI detectors.
    Price
Free: $0. Premium: $30/month, or $120/year. Premium Pro: $36/month, or $144/year. Lifetime: $399 (Premium) or $699 (Premium Pro).

  2. 02LanguageTool

A grammar and style checker for more than 30 languages and dialects, with an AI paraphraser.

    Good for
Writers who switch between languages, and anyone after a lower list price than Grammarly Pro. The paraphraser rewrites a sentence in five modes: general, formal, concise, fluent and simple.
    Limits
Free users can paraphrase three times a day. Unlimited paraphrasing on Premium covers six languages and several English dialects, not all 30, and the page doesn't say which six. The free version checks spelling, simple punctuation and some style; Premium checks up to 150,000 characters per text field.
    Price
    Premium list prices: $24.90/month, $49.90 a quarter, $69.90/year or $119.80 for two years. A time-limited 33% discount was showing on 10 October 2026.

    Limits
Free has limited uploads, memory and context. There is no stock-phrase list or score, so you judge every change yourself, including whether a rewrite added new stock phrases of its own.
    Price
Free: $0/month. Plus: $20/month. Go and Pro: see their pricing page.

Editing with standing instructions. Instructions for Claude apply to all your chats, and skills can apply communication patterns based on your own writing.
    Limits
Usage limits apply on every plan. Like ChatGPT, it gives you no score or list of what it changed, so the judgment is yours.

  5. 05HidenGPTours

An AI ghostwriter for 17 formats; its Rewrite tool humanizes, simplifies, shortens or proofreads a draft you paste in.

    Good for
Seeing exactly what changed. The red pen crosses out the stock phrases it cut and scores the text 0-100 before and after. Voices built from 2-5 samples of your writing (300 characters minimum) are saved on a plan: 5 on Pro, 20 on Pro Max. It writes in 10 languages, including Turkish, Arabic, Russian and Azerbaijani.
    Limits
No free plan; the homepage allows 2 trial drafts a day without an account. No plagiarism checker and no record of your writing process like Grammarly Authorship. Up to 20,000 characters per rewrite. The score is for editing, not an AI detector, and HidenGPT makes no promises about any detector.
    Price
Pro: $19/month ($3 the first month). Pro Max: $29/month ($9 the first month). Yearly: $68.40 (Pro) or $104.40 (Pro Max).

Why Grammarly users look elsewhere

Grammarly's own pages explain most of the reasons.

Price. The humanizer page is open to anyone, but Grammarly says the full Humanizer comes with Pro, at $30 a month or $144 a year. If rewording is most of what you need, that is a lot to pay.

Control. You paste a passage and get a rewritten version back. Some writers would rather accept or reject one sentence at a time.

Language. The Humanizer agent works in six languages. If you write in Turkish, Arabic or Russian, it isn't built for you.

Detectors. Some people go looking for an alternative because they hoped a humanizer would change an AI detector's score. Grammarly says its tool isn't meant for that, and nothing on this page is either. If that was the hope, read how often detectors flag human writing before you spend anything.

Where Grammarly is still the stronger choice

Switching has a cost, and Grammarly bundles several things none of these alternatives combine.

Authorship records what came from AI, from online sources and from you, which helps when a teacher or client asks how a piece was written. A free account gets a custom voice built from your own sample. The same account adds an AI detector, plagiarism checks on Pro and citation tools, and the Go assistant follows you across sites through Grammarly's browser extensions.

If your problem is one stiff paragraph, give Grammarly's custom voice a real sample of your writing before you leave.

Where HidenGPT is weaker than Grammarly

We make HidenGPT, so here is where it loses. There's no free plan, only 2 trial drafts a day on the homepage. There's no plagiarism checker and no Authorship-style record of how you wrote. It doesn't sit inside other apps: you paste text into its composer and copy the result out. Its stock-phrase list covers English and Turkish; in other languages it checks rhythm, sentence length, em dashes and repeated openers, but not phrases.

Where it differs: Rewrite shows what the red pen crossed out and a naturalness score before and after, and every plan saves voices built from your own writing.

Test before you switch: the 150-word trial

Run the same paragraph through Grammarly and one alternative, and judge both the same way. Allow about 20 minutes; that is a rule of thumb.

Pick one 150-word paragraph you care about, ideally one with a number or a name in it. Give each tool a sample of your own writing if it takes one. Then ask three questions of each result. Did any fact, number or name change? How many sentences would you still rewrite? Would a friend recognise it as yours?

A simple rule: if you would still rewrite more than half the sentences from both tools, the draft needs your details, not a different tool. If one tool keeps your facts and leaves you two or three sentences to fix, that is your tool.

How we checked

We read each vendor's own pricing, feature and help pages on 10 October 2026 and linked them under each entry. Grammarly's side comes from its humanizer page, plans page and price support article. We did not compare output quality, and the order is not a ranking.

QuillBot, Wordtune and Hemingway Editor are compared on our best AI humanizer list, so they aren't repeated here. Prices are in US dollars and can vary by region. If something has changed, tell us through the contact page.

Common mistakes

  • Switching tools to chase a detector score: none of these is built for that, and Turnitin says its English detector looks for humanized text.
  • Comparing tools on different paragraphs: run the same 150 words through each one.
  • Paying for a year before testing: start with a monthly plan or a $0 tier for a week.
  • Leaving out a writing sample: Grammarly, ChatGPT, Claude and HidenGPT all get closer to your style when they have your own text.
  • Assuming every language is covered: check the vendor's language list before you subscribe.

Questions

Is Grammarly's AI humanizer free?

Partly. The humanizer on Grammarly's page costs nothing and does basic humanizing, and a free account adds four preset voices, a custom voice and six languages. Grammarly says Pro, at $30 a month or $144 a year, unlocks the full Humanizer.

Is QuillBot's humanizer better than Grammarly's?

We haven't compared their output, so we can't say. On paper, QuillBot's free tier humanizes up to 100 words with limited use and Premium removes the cap, while a free Grammarly account adds custom voices. Our best AI humanizer list covers QuillBot in detail.

Why does Grammarly's humanizer still sound like AI?

Usually because the draft has nothing specific in it. A humanizer can change rhythm and phrasing but can't add your examples, numbers or opinions, so put those in first, then humanize one paragraph at a time.

Will Turnitin flag text from Grammarly's humanizer?

It may. Turnitin says text from Grammarly's generative features, such as paraphrasing, will likely be flagged, and that its English detector also looks for text reworded by humanizers. Grammarly says its humanizer is not intended for getting text past detectors.

Can I use Grammarly's humanizer for school?

Only within your school's rules. Grammarly asks students to follow their school's AI policy and cite AI use, and says that using a humanizer to disguise AI use where it is restricted may count as cheating.

What is the cheapest alternative to Grammarly Pro?

Among the tools here, ChatGPT and Claude have $0 plans, and LanguageTool's list price is $69.90 a year against Grammarly Pro's $144, with a time-limited discount showing when we checked. ProWritingAid Premium is $120 a year. Prices can vary by region.

Which alternative can sound like me?

The ones you can give your own writing. ChatGPT's Custom Instructions hold up to 1,500 characters of style notes on Free and 5,000 on Plus, Claude's skills can apply patterns from your writing, and HidenGPT builds a voice from at least 300 characters of your text. Grammarly's custom voice does the same job.
